The challenge

The fintech's transaction volumes had scaled quickly, but its data lived in three disconnected places: the origination system, the payments processor, and a homegrown risk-scoring tool. Analysts answered basic questions about default rates or merchant performance by pulling manual exports and reconciling them by hand, and credit decisions were slowed by the same manual stitching.

With a funding round approaching, investors were asking for real-time portfolio metrics that finance and risk could not produce reliably on demand. Leadership needed a data foundation, not another dashboard bolted onto the existing mess.

What we did

  • Audited the existing data landscape across origination, payments and risk-scoring systems to map lineage and duplication
  • Designed and built a cloud-based data warehouse with automated pipelines from the three core systems, replacing manual exports
  • Rebuilt the credit-decision workflow so risk scoring pulled directly from the warehouse instead of analyst-assembled spreadsheets
  • Delivered real-time dashboards for portfolio risk, merchant performance and default trends, tailored separately for the executive team and the board
  • Set up data-quality monitoring and documentation so the in-house engineering team could maintain and extend the platform after handover

The outcome

Credit-decision turnaround improved by 35%, driven by removing manual data assembly from the risk workflow.

The executive team gained a single real-time view of portfolio risk, which it used directly in investor reporting through the funding round.

The in-house engineering team has extended the platform to two additional product lines since handover, reusing the same pipeline architecture without external support.
